Jon Marrese Bio

Jon Marrese Bio

Jon Marrese is being honoured by the St. Albert Rams for his lifelong dedication to lacrosse as a player, coach, mentor, and supporter of the sport. Born in Winnipeg and raised in St. Albert, he excelled as a young athlete, playing Junior A with the Miners, competing for years in Senior B, and being drafted by the Edmonton Rush in 2005. Even after injuries ended his competitive career, his passion for lacrosse continued.

Jon’s involvement in the sport opened academic opportunities, including a lacrosse scholarship to St. Andrew’s College, followed by a Bachelor of Physical Education from the University of Alberta. Jon’s greatest impact came through coaching, especially mentoring his son Marek, teaching him both lacrosse skills and life lessons. He coached until June 2023, months before his passing. Marek carries his father’s teachings with him, and Jon’s daughter Afton now plays with the Rams, continuing his legacy.

Outside lacrosse, Jon built a successful career as a Senior Analyst with Kinder Morgan and pursued fitness disciplines like CrossFit, powerlifting, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He and his wife, Jamey, married in 2011 and created a life centered on family, friendship, and shared passions.

Jon passed away on November 16, 2023, at age 39 after a courageous two-year battle with cancer. He is deeply missed by his family, friends, teammates, and former players. His influence endures through the athletes he coached, the relationships he built, and the values he instilled. The Rams community proudly recognizes his lasting contributions. Forever a Ram, forever remembered.
