Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

When does the season start and end?

For all levels, Rams evaluations begin in March, practices begin in early April and the regular season begins around the middle of April. The regular sesaon and playoffs finish up around the end of June and this year Provincials will be finished July 18.

Would it be difficult fo my child to join if he/she has never played before?

Every child's adaptation to the game of lacrosse is different. Lacrosse is a runners game, so a new player who runs well is at an advantage. It also helps if the child has experience with a stick or bat in their hand due to the hand eye coordination and mechanics involved in using a lacrosse stick. He/she should finally be prepared to have alot of fun. Lacrosse is a great game that is like a hockey/basketball hybrid as it combines finesse and physical contact, making for a very exciting sport.

Does the season start on different dates for different levels?

Yes, there are some different start times for the season depending on what division your child is in. Divisions that do not require evaluations will not start their seasons until the beginning of April. Those divisions include Mini-Tyke, Tyke, Novice Girls and Pee Wee Girls. There are Bring a Friend / Come Try Lacrosse Nights in March that players can take advantage of to get their lacrosse fix or try out the game.

Is the Club competitive and are there try-outs?

The St. Albert Rams Lacrosse Club follows the tiering guidelines that the Greater Edmonton Lacrosse Council promotes. Divisions Pee Wee through Midget are seperated into Tiers A, B and C, depending on the number of team the Club has at each division. This year in St. Albert we have decided to move away from a 'try-out' philosopy. Instead, all the information collected in evaluations will be used by the coaching staffs to select their teams.
